ffmpeg-logo
FFmpeg is a powerful open source video solution that can read and/or manipulate a wide range of video formats, and is used by abeMeda to read thumbnails and metadata for video files.


VLC_icon_sm
VLC media player is one of the best stand-alone multimedia players for various audio and video formats. Not used by abeMeda, but it’s cool for viewing those files once you’ve found them.

Xpdf is a free open source PDF viewer and toolkit, that offers a collection of Win32 command line tools that can parse and convert PDF files. abeMeda can utilize them to obtain PDF thumbnails and content.

The Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP) is a DirectShow filter pack. It contains filters for a wider variety of video files, and enables abeMeda to create thumbnails for all your video files. There are other codec packs out there, but this one seems to be the most complete, and was used in abeMeda testing.

Apple’s QuickTime used to be a great multimedia enhancement for your Desktop. abeMeda can use QuickTime to create thumbnails of GIF and PSD images, and MOV movie files. It seems it has now been discontinued fro Windows by Apple - abeMeda can use ffmpeg instead.

IrfanView is a very fast, small, compact and innovative FREEWARE (for non-commercial use) graphic viewer for Windows 9x, ME, NT, 2000, XP, 2003 , 2008, Vista, Windows 7. abeMeda can use it to display slideshows.

XnView_PNG_Icon
XnView, the efficient multimedia viewer, browser and converter, is useful for editing IPTC metadata, viewing the files, and abeMeda can use it to display slideshows.

Google Earth lets you fly anywhere on Earth to view satellite imagery, maps, terrain, 3D buildings and even explore galaxies in the Sky. You can explore rich geographical content, save your toured places and share with others.
abeMeda uses Google Earth for geotagging pictures, displaying GPS coordinates and showing KMZ files.

7ziplogo
7-Zip is an open source tool for manipulating archive files. abeMeda uses 7-ZIP, if available, to read archive file content for formats like 7z, ARJ, LHA, ISO or DMG.
